Michelle Retzlaff, M.A., CCC-SLP, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and completed her Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
Michelle has worked within the field of assistive technology and alternative and augmentative communication since graduation, by primarily serving individuals with significant communication deficits. Prior to joining Saltillo, Michelle worked as a speech-language pathologist for a large urban school district serving students who ranged in age from 3-21 with a variety of diagnosis. Michelle worked at a level one trauma hospital in the sub-acute setting providing therapeutic services to adults with a variety of acquired language and swallowing disorders. At her previous employers, Michelle had the opportunity to work closely with other professionals on a multidisciplinary team. She prepared various communication strategies including low-tech solutions to high-tech devices. While at the school and hospital settings, Michelle had the opportunity to plan and implement therapy targeting the use of the various communication systems. Further, Michelle has experience of providing technical support and implementation strategies to teachers, clinicians, and family members of device users.
Michelle holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), an Illinois Speech-Language Pathology License, and a Professional Education License, non-teaching. Michelle is also a member of ASHA’s Special Interest Division 12 (AAC Division).
