LaConda Walker

instructor imageLaConda Walker, M.A., SLT, CTRS,  earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Murray State University and completed her Master of Arts in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation, also at Murray State University. She holds a K-12 Speech Language Technician License though the Arizona department of Education and a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant License through the Arizona Department of Health Services.  She is nationally certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation.

Following receipt of her master’s degree, LaConda served both children and adults with disabilities using a variety of communication technologies. Prior to joining PRC, she worked six years as a Speech Language Technician in the public-school setting consulting with school based SLPs on device implementation and ongoing therapy for children who used a variety of AAC systems with a wide array of communication disorders and abilities.  She was responsible for the development of communication skills necessary for academic and community success. During summers, she participated in assistive technology camps where children used augmentative communication devices.

During her employment as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in the hospital settings she provided ongoing therapy to a variety of populations including acute and skilled care settings, pediatrics, oncology and obstetrics.

LaConda is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the Arizona Speech and Language Association (ArSHA) and the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.
