Meredith Hankins

Meredith Kelley Hankins, M.S., CCC-SLP, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders from Ouachita Baptist University and went on to complete her Master of Science in Communication Disorders at the University of Montevallo. She brings more than 20 years of dedicated, AAC-focused clinical experience to her role as a PRC-Saltillo Consultant.

Prior to joining PRC-Saltillo, Meredith spent nearly two decades as a Speech-Language Pathologist and AAC Specialist at United Ability (formerly UCP of Greater Birmingham) in Birmingham, Alabama, where she helped grow a thriving outpatient clinic serving individuals with complex communication needs. In that role, she conducted AAC evaluations, led implementation of PRC-Saltillo language systems, including Words for Life, Unity, and WordPower, and built collaborative workflows with OT, PT, educators, and medical providers to support access solutions ranging from switch scanning to eye gaze. Her work consistently focused on reducing device abandonment and on supporting families in integrating AAC into everyday life.

Meredith's passion for building community around AAC led her to create peer-based social communication programs, including Girl Talk and Summer Socials, and later to collaborate on Camp CHAT — Alabama's first AAC teen camp. She was on the initial AT Alabama Conference planning team through a statewide grant initiative to expand AAC training infrastructure for educators across the state and continues to participate in that work. She also chaired the Speech and Hearing Association of Alabama's AAC Committee from 2018 to 2022 and has supervised more than 45 graduate interns and clinical fellows throughout her career.

Meredith holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a state license in Speech-Language Pathology from the State of Alabama, and is a LAMP Certified Professional. She is a member of the Speech-Language Hearing Association of Alabama (SHAA) and was honored with SHAA's AAC Professional Award in 2017.
