instructor imageMaria Rivera, M.S., CCC-SLP, completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Exceptional Student Education with ESOL endorsement in 2012, and completed her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Florida International University in 2014. Prior to joining PRC, Maria served pediatric and adult populations in a variety of settings and had the opportunity to work with individuals with a variety of special needs.

Maria also worked for the state assistive technology program, the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST). Through FAAST, Maria provided information about assistive technology (AT), and provided support to families and therapists on the importance of using AT tools to support language development. She also sat as a team member on the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Interdisciplinary team at the University of Miami, Mailman Center for Child Development, working closely with the assistive technology specialist and occupational therapist to determine appropriate and efficient communication access for individuals with complex communication needs. She also completed AAC device trials, and provided AAC implementation training and support to children, their families, and other therapist and team members.

Maria is a licensed and certified bilingual speech-language pathologist. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), is a member of  ASHA’s Special Interest Division 12 (AAC Division), and holds a state license in Speech-Language Pathology in Florida.
